In your group, discuss how the following scenarios could be dangerous.
  1. Not putting your bag under your desk.
  2. Running around in the laboratory.
  3. Not wearing shoes in a laboratory.
  4. Shaking a test tube with your thumb over its mouth?
How do we work in this laboratory?
  1. Beginning and End of class: Lining up, Entry, Seating,
  2. Equipment tray: equipment list and details.

  • Test tube - This is used for experiments using liquids. They have a bung that can be placed in the top. Test tubes sit in a test tube rack.
  • Conical Flask - This is used for experiments with liquid up to 150 ml. The flask has a rubber bung for the top and the glass is heatproof.
  • Glass Stirring rod - This is a 20cm glass rod used to stir and mix any liquids together.
  • Test tube tongs - These are used to hold a hot test tube after an experiment.
  • Spatula - This is for holding very small amounts of chemical powders.
  • Funnel - used to channel liquids into a smaller container.
  • Measuring Cylinder - This is used to measure liquids for experiments. The liquids will be poured into a beaker or test tube once measured out.

Hurumau-Water Cycle

AIM: TO LEARN ABOUT WATER ON EARTH.Climate Chaos

Written by: Qyn

Title

How to make a water cycle

Purpose

The purpose is to make a normal water cycle in experiment 1

To find carbon dioxide in experiment 2

Materials

  1. Clear zip lock bag
  2. 1 cup of cold water
  3. 2 drops of blue food colouring
  4. Permanent marker
  5. 2 strips of double-sided tape
  6. Window to stick
Second Experiment
  1. Clear zip lock bag
  2. 2 drops of blue food colouring
  3. Permanent marker
  4. 2 strips of double-sided tape
  5. 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  6. 1 cup of soda water
  7. Litmus paper

Steps

Experiment 1
Draw a water cycle on the clear zip-lock bag with a   marker.
Put 2 double-sided tapes on the top and bottom part of the zip lock bag
Carefully put 1 cup of cold water in a zip lock bag.
Add 2 drops of blue food colouring in the bag of water.
Close the zip lock bag and stick the zip lock bag on a window where there is sunlight.
Experiment 2
Draw a water cycle on the clear zip-lock bag with a permanent marker.
Put 2   double-sided tapes on the top and bottom part of the zip lock bag
Carefully add 1 cup of soda water in a zip lock bag
Put the litmus paper on top of the zip lock bag.
Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda in the bag and quickly close the zip lock bag.
stick the zip lock bag on a window where is sunlight.

Conclusion

Experiment 1
I think what is going to happen to the normal water cycle is that there will be only half of the water left.
Experiment 2
I think the litmus paper will change colour

Key: Water and acidity amount: 1 = none
2 = small
3 = large
  • for the first bag only cycled in a small bit
  • the first water cycle the water changed a small amount
  • the second cycle changed a little bit
  • the litmus paper change a small amount

Conclusion

the normal water cycle had an average droplet of cycle.
the water of the normal water cycle changed a small amount.
On the second water cycle, the litmus paper only changed a little bit of colour.
the second cycle changed a little bit.

Clay Sculpture

For the past week for Art, we have been making our characters for our stop motions.
Here is what I have made.
I made one of the four Pheonix and its name is Moonlight and the other character that I made is Bob the guard from the prison.
What I found challenging is how to make the tiny little details of the characters.

Hurumau-Solar Energy

Aim: To find out which colour attracts the suns heat.

Hypothesis: I think the colour silver will attract the sun.

Materials:

  1. white cup
  2. white paper
  3. black plastic
  4. 2 clear cups
  5. tin foil
  6. heat lamp
  7. thermometer

Steps

  1. Collect all of the materials
  2. Put the white paper on the table
  3. Put the white cup on top of the paper
  4. Put black plastic on the table next to the white paper
  5. Put the cup on the black plastic cover
  6. Put the clear cup in the centre of the plastic
  7. Put the tin foil next to the black plastic
  8. Cover the clear cup with tin foil
  9. Put the heat lamp in front of the cups

Conclusion

In conclusion, my findings in this experiment state that the colour attracts the heat more. The colour white attracts less heat.
We found out that solar panels are coloured black because black attracts more heat. In other hot countries, they don’t paint their houses black because they don’t want to be hot, so they paint their houses white.

Hurumau-Greenhouse Effects

AIM: TO LOOK AT CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT.

The Greenhouse Effect experiment

Materials

  1. bottles
  2. thermometer
  3. heat lamp
  4. baking soda and citric acid
  5. rubber bung
  6.  water

Procedure

  1.  plug in the heat lamp
  2. put the heat lamp towards the bottle
  3. add the water, baking soda, mixture to one of the bottle
  4. add just water to the second bottle
  5. put the rubber bung and the thermometer in the bottle top
  6. start recording the temperature of the bottles every 5 minute
