The Hunt for the WilderPeople film review

This is a film review for The hunt for the Wilderpeople. Firstly, this film was directed by one of the most infamous directors in New Zealand, Taika Waititi. He has worked with Marvel to make the movie Thor come to life. The movie has a great plot to it. There wasn't any time where I was confused about what's happening in the movie. The Hunt for the Wilderpeople was released on March 31, 2016. The Movie starred Julian Dennison as Ricky Baker, Sam Neill as Hec and Rima Te Wiata as Bella. 

The plot of the film is about a young boy being moved home from home because he is a foster child, he is also a very rebellious kid in the city that's why the social services decided to move him to the countryside with a couple, Bella and Hec. Bella ends up dying in the first 30 mins of the film, Ricky has to move to another family because there wasn't a motherly figure anymore but he didn't want to, resulting in him running away with Hec and causing an entire manhunt. By the end of the film he got to stay with a family he met along the way with Hec.

The emotions of the characters were carried out nicely, it was obvious what they were feeling because of how they act and not just their facial expression. I think the movie is good to watch with your family but be cautious because there is certain language that might not be suitable for a younger audience. I would give it a four out of five because the movie was great but not outstanding.

SEXXXY paragraph three

This week our task was to create another paragraph because not all of us know how to make one and for those who know how to we can practice and get used to making a SEXXXY paragraph. This is different from our other one because we have to pick one out of two images to use as a topic for our paragraph. Here is the image that I picked and my paragraph. 

SEXXXY

This shot is a long shot because we can see what’s around them. We can see that it’s a long shot because we can the setting and not just their faces. The lighting gives off that it is dark and more of a serious scene. This is important because it’s when they are running away from the police and it gives them time to bond. The long shot and the lighting was paired nicely because if the lighting was really bright while their faces are serious it wouldn’t have looked as well as it could be if the lighting was darker. The scene was crafted to make it seem serious and they captured that really well by using the right techniques.

Student Choice tasks

After our class (9TB H1) finished writing our paragraphs we had to pick two student choice activity, The two that I picked to was to pick an important relationship in the film and to write why their relationship was important. The other one was to create a resume for two of the protagonist in the film, The Hunt For The Wilder People. 

    

The Hunt For The Wilder People

The things that we have been learning in Hurumanu One is film study, writing SEXXXY paragraph's and identifying the conflict and chaos in the film. We wrote two paragraphs so we could practice writing them and so we can get better and writing in-depth paragraphs, we wrote it in the same process but change the topic about it so that we weren't repeating the same thing. 

What I learnt was to create a well written SEXXXY paragraph and to identify the types of conflict and chaos in the film, like if it is person vs person, person vs self, person vs society or person vs nature.

This has helped me with my writing because I got used to writing a paragraph and planning it and not just jumping right into it. 

My favourite part of the film study was preparing and planning my paragraph and think what theme I was gonna go with.

Conflict and Chaos & SEXXXY Paragraph

 The slides and paragraph are linked together because the slides helped me write and plan the sexxxy paragraph. It also shows how the characters are like, the characters are important because that is what I talk about in the paragraph and the conflict and chaos. 

SEXXXY Paragraph

Hec and Ricky are two of the protagonists in the well-known movie called The Hunt For The Wilder People. Hec’s relationship with Ricky did not start out well. This shows when he didn’t want Ricky to stay with them. This was done to create a dynamic where Hec is in charge of what’s happening and Ricky does not want to follow but in the end, they finally get along. If Hec and Ricky’s relationship was just Hec being nice to Ricky then the movie wouldn’t be as interesting and if they weren’t arguing a lot then Hec wouldn’t have been shoot by Ricky and created more chaos. So if they’re relationship wasn’t the way it is some key things wouldn’t have happened like the whole entire manhunt.

Taika Waititi

-Early Life 

Taika Waititi was born on August 16, 1975, in Ruakokore, Waihau Bay. He and his wife married in 2011 and has 2 children named  Matewa Kiritapu and Te Hinekāhu. His Dad was an artist and his Mum was a schoolteacher. His Mums side of the family were Russian Jews with a mix of Irish and his Dad is Moari and a bit of French Canadian. His parents split when he was five but his Mother raised him for the most part. 

For school, he studied theatre at victoria university of wellington and got a bachelor degree in Art in 1997.

-Work

When he was in school he was also in a five-member ensemble called “So you’re the man”. They toured in New Zealand and Australie and he was also in a comedy duo with Jemaine Clement. In 2005 two of his short films earned him an Acadamy nomination. The movies he’s worked on and been in are Jojo rabbit, What we do in the shadows. Boy, Thor: Ragnarock and Hunt for the wilder people, just to name a few.
