Wonder Book & Movie

One of the changes that I like was the ending where Auggie got a standing ovation when he received the medal. I liked that ending because it ties everything together. I wish they put in the ending of the book into the movie when they were hangout.  One of the changes that surprised me was when Jack’s younger brother wasn’t in the movie. It was surprising because jack is one of the supporting characters so you would think that his brother (who is in the book) would be in the movie. Overall I liked the different changes that they made.

My holiday

I'm going to write about my time during my holiday. 
Physically, I went with my friends to walk around the mall for her birthday but most of the time I was just laying on my bed watching a show on Netflix. The only walking I did when I was at home was walking to my bed all the way to the kitchen or going to the living room. 

Intellectually, I didn't really learn much since I was just eating or sleeping. I also learnt that my brother wasn't bad at cooking when he cooked us dinner and when he would make us brunch.    

Emotionally, I felt good when I went out with my friends and family but for the rest of the break, I didn't feel that well because it was raining for the majority of the school break. I didn't do some of the things I was supposed to do because I had no motivation to do anything because I just felt pretty sad and I didn't know why.  boredom played a big part in why I didn't really feel good because I didn't know what else to do but it felt nice that I didn't have to wake up early to go to school. 

ESOL reflection term 3

 The best lesson, in my opinion, is what we did yesterday, all we had to do was a short test and we could do whatever we like afterwards. The thing that I enjoyed doing in this class is watching a movie because we don't have to do a lot of work. One of the tasks that I am most proud of is my presentation of Thailand that I did for the Penguin Bloom activities. I liked it because I got to research a country that I didn't know very well. Something that I would do differently next term is trying not to be talkative and pay more attention. For next term maybe we could watch more movies and play more games. 

The Trolley

 This week we read a short story about a Mum who couldn't afford Christmas gifts for her kids. Instead, she made the gift herself and that was a trolley. Issues that popped up were poverty and being anxious about Christmas gifts.

100 word challenge

Last  Tuesday we wrote about a topic and only using 100 words. The topic that I chose to write about is my friends, here is mine:

I first met Lorraine when I was 6 years old when we were in primary school then came Faye a few months later. I met Anica a few years later and after that I met Liyah and Eunize. In 2017 I met Zoe and we were in the same class. That was a few years ago, some friends come and go. Kristlle and I met in April 2019 when Faye and I started going to Hornby High. I Think it was 3 years ago when I might Kl. In 2020 I met Stephanie when  she started Hornby then the following August or September I met Alexis. 

ESOL Recount

today our teacher started to read without giving us any warning. She didn't tell us the title and what the novel is about. She gave us an option whether to continue ready or get on with our work but we chose to do our work.

It started off with him telling how his parents met. They met at the bakery where his Mum works. His Mum liked going to school but you can't say the same for his Dad. His name is Noah and he had 2 brothers and a Mum and Dad. His parents moved to Kenya, the went to Africa 5 times before they were born. Now they live In Sydney, Australia. 

I think the story is about him and his family living a perfect life in Australia but something bad might happen. He and his family could go back to Kenya or a family member might pass.#

What we did today at ESOL

The three things that I remembered doing today was Hot Potato where we have to write one word then pass it to the other person to create a story, rewriting it to make sense and writing a story but the words have to be in alphabetical order. 

I learnt that It was harder to make a story only using words in alphabetical order as well as everyone trying to make a story without it being messed up.

One question that I have is how do people actually make the stories work out readable. 

Something fun about ESOL

 Something fun about ESOL is the games we play, like Kahoot. The other fun game that we play is the quiz that we played today. Something fun that we could do watch a movie that we enjoy and that is also fun, playing board games would also be nice.

ESOL challenges

 There are a few challenging things that we did but today the challenge was to use three words in a story that has to be at least 150 words. at first, I found it hard to do but as time went on It got easier. 

Here is mine.

On a fine morning, faynubio went on with her morning as she always does but this time as she drinks her coffee she gets a letter from a reputable school saying that she got accepted, this school is reputable but her parents think it’s not very good for her so she’s gonna have a hard time on telling them about it. Later on the day, she got another letter but from a different school that her parents wanted her to go to but she doesn’t want too. As she continues to contemplate on whether she should go to the school she likes she sips her cup of coffee. On that evening when she met up with her parents for dinner she finally tells them that she got into the school that she wanted to get into. That evening went well, she was surprised she was courageous enough to tell her parents. A few months later she went to the college campus, she goes to the cafeteria and sees a cornucopia of fresh baked goods. She ends the day by having a good meal at the cafeteria and making a new friend. 

 

Athletics day

 Yesterday was Athletics day, the day started off with the people who are doing social going to class and the others who are doing competitive doing their first event of the day. 

I was looking forward to the relays the most because I was gonna run for our kahui, the kahui that I was in is Tieke which was Red, Ririorio is blue and Mohua is yellow. 

I did social but I usually do competitive I wasn't in shape for it, we still had to do the events but it was just for fun. 

The thing that I wasn't looking forward to the most is the high jump because every time I run up to the pole I get nervous because I'm scared to knock it down.

The last event of the day was the relays, everyone when to sit down with their kahui and started chanting. I was a bit nervous to run when it was my turn but I did better then I was expecting. Sadly we didn't win but that's ok there's always next year.

Overall I really enjoyed athletics day with my friends because we were just playing games, eating food and cheering our friends that did it competitively.    

What I like to do on the weekend

 What I like to do on the weekend 

Over the weekends I go on a walk with my Dad at the beach at dawn. I also like to watch movies with my family at home and eating popcorn. The movies that we watch are Filipino rom-com. Some weekends we just stay at home, relax and spend time together but on some weekends we go to different places.

After I go to church with my family we go to the mall and look around and sometimes we eat out for lunch. Most of the time there is a gathering that we go to with friends, like birthday parties or just to have fun and spend time together. Me and my family like to go to the city and explore some of the places we haven’t been to. 

When we get home from the places we go to me and my brothers have to do our chores. When we do finish I try to help my Mum or my Dad cook our lunch/dinner. We don’t always go out for dinner because we’d rather be at home and eat the meal that my parents cook. 

                                           

321 RIQ 9ESOL Feb 12

Today we learnt how to use 321 RIQ, it is a strategy for writing a reflection. No. 3 is for 3 Recalls- 3 things we remember about the lesson. No.2 is 1 insight- 2 new things we learnt in the lesson. No.1 is for 1 question- 1 question that we have about something we didn't understand of still want to know more about. The R is for Recall, I is for insights and Q is for Question.

The three things that I remember that we did at ESOL was the name game, a game that we played to learn each other's names, Miss Truters pepeha and when we had to write about ourselves.

Two new things I learnt from our lessons is 321 RIQ and things about Miss Truter.

One thing that I want to know a little bit more about the people in my class.
