Something fun about ESOL

 Something fun about ESOL is the games we play, like Kahoot. The other fun game that we play is the quiz that we played today. Something fun that we could do watch a movie that we enjoy and that is also fun, playing board games would also be nice.

Banana Chocolate Chip Muffin

 

On Friday the 12th we made Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins. This time we worked a lot quicker so we had 10 minutes to spare. Our team worked great.

There were crispy edges, the chocolate chips were slightly melted. The inside was soft. You can really taste the banana, It smelt like chocolates more than the bananas. It was easier to get out then the spiced apple muffins because we used muffin liners. My family liked it so I wouldn't change anything. Overall they came out really nice.

     

                         

Sheep heart dissection

 Today we are dissecting a sheep's heart. Our aim is to identify the different parts of the heart and to see how it works.  

I think we will see a lot of blood, where the blood flows through, the Septem, veins, arteries, pulmonary, ventricles, atriums, valves.

Method:                                                                          Right side: 

1. From the superior vena cava, cut down the right side from the atrium to the ventricle.

2. Identify the right atrium, ventricle and the valve.

3. Follow from the ventricle up through the artery (pulmonary). Where does it go?

Left side: 

4. From the Pulmonary vein, cut down the left side from the atrium to the ventricle.

5. Identify the left atrium, ventricle and the valves.

6. Follow from the ventricle up through the artery (aorta). Where does it go?

Pulmonary is related/something to do with the lungs.

The septum is the thing that divides the left and right side of the heart.

The heartstrings are strong fibers that hold the valves in place.

When we cut it open we found the heartstrings, ventricles and a lot of tissues outside of it.

In conclusion, we saw a lot of things we expected, it didn't really smell as bad as I thought it would be.

We saw that the left side of the heart is thicker than the right side because the left side needs to pump more blood throughout the body and not just to the lungs.

I found it interesting to dissect a heart, it didn't really smell that bad as I thought it would. I probably wouldn't want to do it again.

ESOL challenges

 There are a few challenging things that we did but today the challenge was to use three words in a story that has to be at least 150 words. at first, I found it hard to do but as time went on It got easier. 

Here is mine.

On a fine morning, faynubio went on with her morning as she always does but this time as she drinks her coffee she gets a letter from a reputable school saying that she got accepted, this school is reputable but her parents think it’s not very good for her so she’s gonna have a hard time on telling them about it. Later on the day, she got another letter but from a different school that her parents wanted her to go to but she doesn’t want too. As she continues to contemplate on whether she should go to the school she likes she sips her cup of coffee. On that evening when she met up with her parents for dinner she finally tells them that she got into the school that she wanted to get into. That evening went well, she was surprised she was courageous enough to tell her parents. A few months later she went to the college campus, she goes to the cafeteria and sees a cornucopia of fresh baked goods. She ends the day by having a good meal at the cafeteria and making a new friend. 

 

Athletics and PE so far

On athletics day I did social, meaning I didn't compete. The thing that I did for the first time is not do competitive because I wanted a break from always doing competitively. I enjoyed it because I got to be with my friends more and we just hanged out while watching our other friend's do their events. The other thing that I did for the first time is Triple jump but it was just for practice. I improved on long jump for practice because I'm pretty sure I got a longer distance. I didn't do competitive but I still ran for our kahui for the relay race. 

Spiced apple muffins

     

On Friday, Mar 5th we made spiced apple muffins, this time our time worked faster even though there were fewer people. The people in our team is Me, Lhysette and Emma.

They turned out pretty well and it wasn't hard to get them out of the tray. The rim of the muffins are a little crisp and the inside is fluffy. when it came out of the oven it smelt like cinnamon. when you bite into it you can really taste the apple. I wouldn't really change anything because it tasted pretty good.

                                         

Athletics day

 Yesterday was Athletics day, the day started off with the people who are doing social going to class and the others who are doing competitive doing their first event of the day. 

I was looking forward to the relays the most because I was gonna run for our kahui, the kahui that I was in is Tieke which was Red, Ririorio is blue and Mohua is yellow. 

I did social but I usually do competitive I wasn't in shape for it, we still had to do the events but it was just for fun. 

The thing that I wasn't looking forward to the most is the high jump because every time I run up to the pole I get nervous because I'm scared to knock it down.

The last event of the day was the relays, everyone when to sit down with their kahui and started chanting. I was a bit nervous to run when it was my turn but I did better then I was expecting. Sadly we didn't win but that's ok there's always next year.

Overall I really enjoyed athletics day with my friends because we were just playing games, eating food and cheering our friends that did it competitively.
