Beauty and the Beast

For the past few weeks instead of going to our normal classes, we chose three passion projects. One of the classes I chose is fairytales, in fairytales we got to read about the original tales from the Brothers Grimm and other fairytales. Near the end, we did a retelling of Cinderella so we could practise for when we did the actual thing. Our last project is to do a retelling of our choice, I chose to do Beauty and the Beast. I didn't change a lot of it because when people read it I want them to remember that it's still Beauty and the Beast and not something else. So here is my retelling of Beauty and the Beast.

Beauty and The Beast Retelling draft

For our final project, we did another retelling of our choice. I chose a fairytale which is "Beauty and The Beast", I chose to retell this because I've always been fond of their story. I didn't change a whole lot so you can still see the resemblance of the original story. Here is my first draft of the retelling.

Long ago tales of a beast living just outside of the town of Conquest began to spread. No one dares to go near the west of the village. It only takes a brave girl to save her father.

An inventor by the name of Maurice fell sick, his daughter Belle was worried because he isn’t in a state where his sickness is normal. She brought in healers hoping they could do something but when they took a look at him they were frightened. Confused and more worried, Belle began asking questions. They took her outside and told her at he has a rare disease that only a flower can heal. That was the last thing they said before leaving. She hurried to her father’s library and started looking for a book about the magical flower that would heal him. She uncovers an old book tucked away in the corner and started reading. After hours of searching, she finally stumbles across a rose in a glass dome imprinted on a page, beneath it reads,” To whoever is willing to sacrifice shall be gifted with the power of healing”. She knew that this is what the healers were talking about but she still didn’t know where to get it. After more reading, she finds another image in one of the pages and a script below it. “ Who seeks and who’s courageous wanders through the woods of the west, thou shall find a castle and sacrifices themself.” Belle reads. Maurice walks in and breaks the silence, Belle knew that is was the right time to tell her father that she might be away for a while whilst she gets the things that would heal him.  Hesitant to say yes, Maurice agrees because he knew that if she did this they would have more time together.

Belle, not entirely knowing what she’s getting herself into says goodbye to her father and makes her way to the west of the woods with some of her stuff. She took out the book from her bag and followed the map on one of the pages. After 15 mins of walking, she makes her way to the castle gate. Shivers across her spine as the gate squicks open. She opens the massive doors to the castle and a talking spoon appears and welcomes her. The talking spoon leads her to the dining hall where the “Beast” (she didn’t think that the Beast was real since she thought it was just a tale but she was very wrong) was. Frightened, she tries to run for the door but the Beast says he wasn’t going to eat her and that he was just going to ask a question. She gives in, knowing that this is the only way to save her father. She starts talking about why she was here, about her father and about the book. The Beast takes her to the conservatory where the rose was. Before opening the glass dome that the rose was in he says that he will give her the rose one condition, she has to stay in the castle for a few days so that the Beast can see if she is really worthy of getting the rose and saving her father. Belle says yes and the spoon takes her to her room for the next few days.

They spent their first day having tea in the conservatory and the next few days they got to know each other more. Day by day they got closer and started sharing more of the sensitive parts of their life. One night Belle was talking about her mother and sister, they both passed during a fire in their family bakery.  The other night Beast who’s real name is Adam was saying how he came to be the Beast. He paid for his father’s misdoings by letting the old hag place the curse on him.  His father had once loved the old hag but left her for Adams mother, he has to find his true love for the curse to be lifted. The final night he had asked her if she wanted to dance, she said she didn’t know how to but once they started, they couldn’t stop. They both moved gracefully to the sound of the music, whilst they were dancing he was started feeling not so well. He was glowing but like a light, he transforming to his original state. He was human again. Belle was his true love.

He ended up giving her the rose so she could save her father, they had their first sighting of each other when Adam visited Belle. He was so fond of Belle and Maurice that he invited them to live with him since both of them had been living in a small cottage. After a few years of living together, they decided to get married and have 2 children together. After that, they lived happily ever after.

Wonder Book & Movie

One of the changes that I like was the ending where Auggie got a standing ovation when he received the medal. I liked that ending because it ties everything together. I wish they put in the ending of the book into the movie when they were hangout.  One of the changes that surprised me was when Jack’s younger brother wasn’t in the movie. It was surprising because jack is one of the supporting characters so you would think that his brother (who is in the book) would be in the movie. Overall I liked the different changes that they made.

Cinderella Retelling

Last week we did our first retelling of a fairytale which is Cinderella, since I didn't get to finish mine last week I finished it today. Here is my take on Cinderella.

In a small castle far far away with only one neighbouring kingdom lived a family of three. A Father named Francis, a Mother named Frida and a daughter named Ella. To the outside world, they looked like a picture-perfect family but inside the walls of their castle, their family was crumbling. As much as they try to make things work, day by day more strain is put on their relationship. It was especially hard for Ella to see her parents fight. A few mornings later Ella woke up and went down to the hall like usual but this time her mother wasn't there to greet her. Knowing something bad happened, she goes to look for her father. She finds him in the conservatory sobbing.  She had left.

With no trace of her mother, her father had no choice but to accept it and move on. A year had passed and her father remarried a noble woman, Lady Tramaine. She has 2 daughters named Anastasia and Drizzella.  It was hard seeing her father with another woman who isn’t her mother but she is glad to see him happy.  At first Lady Tramaine was treating Ella like her own but when her father went away for a business trip she would make her clean the fireplace and do the chores. She would have cinder all over her clothes, getting the nickname Cinderella.

It was an exciting day because a prince was looking for a wife in the neighbouring kingdom. They got an exquisite invitation to go to a ball to meet the prince. Thrilled, Cinderella started working on her dress. When lady Tramaine found out that Cinderella wanted to go, she goes up to Cinderella’s chamber and took the dress. When Cinderella woke up she was devastated to see the dress burning in the fireplace. Knowing that Lady Tramaine did it she chose not to tell her father since she didn’t want them to fight. When her father asked her what happened to the dress, she simply said that a little mishap had happened and not to worry because she was just going to make another one. On the day of the ball Cinderella still doesn’t have a dress to wear, she decided to help Anastasia and Drezzella get ready. As she was tightening their corset her father pulls her aside to show her a dress that her mother had worn before they got married. He had wanted her to wear it to the ball. One little thing he mentioned was not to tell Lady Tramaine that the dress was her mother so she wouldn’t get upset.

When Lady Tramain and the girls had left, she puts on the dress and makes her way to the courtyard to see her father with a carriage so she would go to the ball. When she got there Lady Tramain was overwhelmed by her beauty not knowing it was her step-daughter. With everyone watching the prince asked her to dance. Looking at the clock she noticed that it was almost midnight and her father told her to go by then. She hurries to go outside but the prince stops her asking her to marry him. She explains that she had to go home but says yes anyway. The next day she heard people talking down the hall, it was the prince from last night asking her father if he could marry her, she gets ready and they make their way back to the castle. Lady Tramaine wasn’t very happy, she sadden that Francis didn’t tell her anything about the dress Cinderella had worn the other night. She packed her and her daughters’ bags and left.

On the day of the wedding, Cinderella was shocked to see her mother amongst the crowd. At the reception, she makes her way to her father and mother. Her father explains that Lady Tramain had left and Her mother decided to come back to see Cinderella get married, after that day they lived happily ever after.

Rapunzel

This week we are identifying the differences between the same story rewritten. The story we are looking at today is Rapunzel. On Monday our teacher read us one version of Rapunzel and today we get to pick which version to read and answer a set of questions.

1. Why do you think texts change over time?

I think the text changed over time to adjust to the small children who read the stories.

2. How come each version we have read of Rapunzel is different, even though they have been written by the same authors?

It depended on the time period, if it's ten years later the way they write changes.

3. What was the same or different in the two versions you read?
The main idea was the same but the way they told the same situation differs.

Buisness and Enterprize

The people in our group is me, Faye, Rinaz and Lina. Our company name is Christmas Mysteries and we are selling beaded necklaces and bracelets in a Christmas cracker. We will be selling our product in Hornby High School on Dec 1th. We are having a Market day to raise money so we can go on our end of year trip.

Footprint analysis

Footprints are a type of impressions forensics scientists look for in a crime scene. You can see which shoes go to which shoeprints by the design/ patterns/ tread, length, shape and wear. For footprints you can tell the differences by looking at the arch of the foot and the size and length of it.

Myths, Legend, Fairy tales & Fables

Myth is a story that is passed on by generations, it is about how things came to be, supernatural or phenomenons. A popular myth is a Greek Mythology.

Legend is about someone who did a heroic deed but some facts are exaggerated. An example of a legend is "Sadako".

Fairy tale is more for kids and in a fairy tale, there is always a good character and an evil character. An example of a fairy tale is "little red riding hood" by Charles Perrault.

Fable is a story that has a good lesson to be learnt. It is more focused on animals like the "Ugly duckling".

Science& MAth project

Aim: to have a fully functioning house with a floor plan and to learn about ohms law, resistance, current and voltage.

Method: The floor plan we chose is floor plan C. There are 12 bulbs around the house on 5 paths. In our house, there is a conservatory, living and dining, kitchen, 1 bedroom, cinema/ gaming room, lounge and bathroom/laundry room.

Results:

Discussion: Voltage is how much energy the electrons are carrying and it is measured in volts. Current is how fast the electrons are moving and is measured by amps. Resistance is how hard it is trying to stop the electrons from moving around the circuit. Resistance is measured by ohms.

We didn’t need to calculate the resistance since it was already set up for us. The resistance for the bulbs is 25ohms whilst the voltage for the battery is 200. To calculate the voltage of each path, we divided 200V by how many bulbs are on a path, e.g bulb 1= 200v because 200V÷1=200V. To calculate the current we used the formulae V÷R=I. V being the voltage, R is resistance and I is the current. E.g path 1=8A because 200V÷25ohms=8A. We calculated the area by dividing up the rooms and multiplying the length and width. Our calculations tells us the voltage, current and area of the house. Our calculations made sense because we used the proper formulae.

Conclusion: I enjoyed the project because I got to learn about something new and I didn’t expect that I would like it. I wouldn’t do anything differently or change the floor plan because I think it would be a little too easy to do.

Yr9 Gymnastics

For the last month in PE, we have been doing gymnastics.

Before starting the gymnastic part of PE I didn't really like it that much, I didn't hate it but it wasn't something I was looking forward to doing.

I have enjoyed doing some of the apparatus but generally, I didn't enjoy it that much. The apparatus that I liked doing it the trampoline, parallel and the mat.

My favourite apparatus is the trampoline because it was the only one where I felt like I already knew what to do.  I've learnt how to do a full turn properly.

I have learnt to like it a little bit more than I have. I've also learnt some new skills on the different apparatus.

Grammar

This week the tasks are based on Grammar. The task that we have to do is to rewrite the sentences to make them make sense. The theme the sentences that we have to rewrite is social media madness.

1. I have a few good friends there you'd have a lot in common with!!!

2. Why does life have to be complicated, I'm so lonely, wide awake and have nothing to do. Some guys are real jerks. How can you tell someone it's over and not tell them in person?

3. What's happening on Saturday? Oh wait is it someone's birthday?

4. Well on my way back from New Orleans. Headed straight to Georgia in the morning. Making that money. Y'all got to cash out, won't be till late afternoon but wanna chill a little bit before I leave. Who's down?

5. I just want to say thank you to my aunt since all of us were little you have always helped us whether it was just a simple life lesson or taking us to do something fun. To this day you continue to teach me and help, I can't express how appreciative I am for everything you've done. So this is for you aunt Tina, thank you, I love you and you're the best aunt anybody could ask for.

My holiday

I'm going to write about my time during my holiday.
Physically, I went with my friends to walk around the mall for her birthday but most of the time I was just laying on my bed watching a show on Netflix. The only walking I did when I was at home was walking to my bed all the way to the kitchen or going to the living room.

Intellectually, I didn't really learn much since I was just eating or sleeping. I also learnt that my brother wasn't bad at cooking when he cooked us dinner and when he would make us brunch.

Emotionally, I felt good when I went out with my friends and family but for the rest of the break, I didn't feel that well because it was raining for the majority of the school break. I didn't do some of the things I was supposed to do because I had no motivation to do anything because I just felt pretty sad and I didn't know why.  boredom played a big part in why I didn't really feel good because I didn't know what else to do but it felt nice that I didn't have to wake up early to go to school.

Quotation marks

This week we are learning about Quotation marks, like where and where not to put them, for example, you put quotation marks when saying a title of a book, song or other works. One of the other things is where to put the commas and full stops. Here are some examples.

1. Write a sentence where someone speaks.

"I don't have my work," says Natalie.

2. Write a sentence using a song title.

One of the songs I listen to is "Dreams" by Grent Perez.

3. Write a sentence where someone asks a question.

"Can we get ice cream?" asked Kurt.

4. Write a sentence where someone says something, and there's an exclamation point

"I need help!" yells Mum.

5. Write a sentence where someone says a quotation from someone else.
He says he's "not feeling well" but that's not what we think.

How does resistance affect current

(V) Voltage definition: Voltage is how much energy the electrons are carrying. Measured in volts.
(I) Current definition: Current is how fast the electrons are moving. Measured in amps.
(R) Resistance definition: Resistance is used to slow/ resist the flow of current. Measured in ohms.

The resistance on the left circuit is 10 ohms and it is going slower than the circuit on the right. It shows
resistance when the light is dimmer. The more resistance the dimmer the light and the slower the current. The less resistance the faster the electrons/current move.  It is going slower because the resistance is making the electrons work harder.

Who constructed the first greenhouse?

Who constructed the first greenhouse?

Charles Lucien Bonaparte was a French biologist and ornithologist, Charles Bonaparte credited as the first person to construct a greenhouse in Holland around the 1800s but greenhouses has already arrived In America in the 1700s, nearly four decades later a Boston merchant  named Andrew Faneuil built the first greenhouse in the United States.

ESOL reflection term 3

The best lesson, in my opinion, is what we did yesterday, all we had to do was a short test and we could do whatever we like afterwards. The thing that I enjoyed doing in this class is watching a movie because we don't have to do a lot of work. One of the tasks that I am most proud of is my presentation of Thailand that I did for the Penguin Bloom activities. I liked it because I got to research a country that I didn't know very well. Something that I would do differently next term is trying not to be talkative and pay more attention. For next term maybe we could watch more movies and play more games.

Bag planning

Electricity Series and Parallel circuit

What is the difference between a series and parallel circuit?
On a series circuit, the electrons go on the same path and the parallel branches off on different paths.

What is voltage and current in a circuit?
The voltage is how much energy flows in the circuit and the current is how much fast the electrons move.

Explain why a string of Christmas tree lights would be parallel not series.
Because there are multiple pathways for the electrons to travel on and if one of them is broken the whole thing wouldn't be affected because it's not a series circuit.

Static & Current electricity

Static Electricity

-What are the 3 particles that make up everything? Which ones have a positive and negative charge?

They are Proton, Neutron and Electron. Proton has a positive charge while Electron has a negative charge.

-Objects want to be "electrically neutral", What does that mean?

It is when there is an equal amount of Proton and Electron.

-When you rub two insulators you can get a static shock.

It passes the Electron to you.

-What is an example of static electricity?

When you rub a balloon on your head.

Current Electricity

-What is the particle that moves in a wire?

They are called electrons.

-If there is a high current in a circuit what does this mean?

There is a high voltage.

-How does electricity work to heat up a stove

It converts electric energy into heat energy.

-Where is DC electricity used? Where is AC electricity used?

DC can be used for charging batteries, aircraft etc.

AC is used to power homes, businesses and lightbulbs.

The cay ch12-13 questions

 1. How many days have Philip and Timothy been on the cay?

They have been there for forty-eight days.

2. What does Philip do to help Timothy when he is sick?

Timothy teaches Philip how to fish.

3. Explain why Philip is ready to climb the coconut tree.

He's been getting the fish for two days so he felt ready enough to climb the coconut tree.

4. Why do you think Timothy is trying to teach Philip these survival skills?

I think he is trying to teach Philip these things because he is old and sick to the point his body can no longer do the things he used to do to help them survive.

5. What do you think Philip means by his comment?

I think that he said it in a comedic way since he hasn't seen timothy for a long time he asks if he's still black.

4 main events that happened in ch 6-8 The Cay

After reading the 3 chapters one of the tasks was to make a DLO about the top 4 main events that happened. Here is the one I made.

The Cay Ch 6-8

For this week's readings ch 6-8, it starts off with Timothy spotting a cay in the distance but then Philip fell in the water when there were sharks. Timothy forgets that Philip is blind but then saves him from the sharks. Philip has hesitant to go to the cay but Timothy said they were gonna be safer there. Once they got there Timothy looked around the small island leaving Philip by himself if stew cat but stew cat also wanders off and Philip being completely by himself.

When Timothy gets back Philip was mad because he was blind on the beach with nobody. Timothy makes them a small hut to live in for while but then realise that boats weren't gonna find them there because of the corals so the ships wouldn't be able to get close enough to the cay, that makes Philip madder a Timothy.  Timothy once again left Philip at the hut to get langosta, he left Philip because it would be dangerous for him since he's blind, Timothy came back with some small langosta and cooked it.  After that Philip helped Timothy write help on rocks while Timothy puts them on the sand. That was also when Philip realized that Timothy didn't know how to spell but he decides to play along and pretend he didn't know.  This is all I can remember from what I've read this week.

Week 6 do now: Hurricanes

Two new things I learnt from a video about how hurricanes form is that once the clouds spinning reaches 74mph that's when the hurricane starts. Hurricanes can be huge and they can be 10 miles high and 1,000 miles across.

Hurricane season is between June and December, while September is the peak of the season.  Another thing is that Curacao tends to be dryer than the other islands in hurricane season because wherever the hurricane is, it is taking all the wind. The last time a hurricane hit Curacao was in 1877 but I think in the story of The Cay a hurricane will strike.

Surviving on a cay

This is the second out of the two activities that I did for English this week. The last one I picked on the task board was to create a poster about 10 survival tips if you were to be stuck on a cay, I used the information from the book to make this. Here it is.

The Cay Ch 1-5 main events timeline

One of the tasks we could do as a part of our learning from home activities is to create a timeline about the main events that happened through Ch 1-5. Here is the one I made.

Thursday, August 26, 2021

Do now: Langosta

If there were a lot of langosta available on the cay then you have plenty of food to eat but you have to have the supplies to cook it first. You could also maybe use the shells for weapons, maybe even for shelter, if you have a lot of them. The langosta could also be used for supplies, just to name a few examples of how the langosta could help you survive on a cay.

The Cay chapter 1-5 summary

For the past few weeks, we have been reading the novel The Cay chapters 1-5. The story begins on the night of 1942, a young boy named Philip was asleep on their second floor. He and his family were originally from Virginia, United States but moved to Curaçao, a Dutch Caribbean island.

From what I can remember, chapter one was when the u-boats started coming to the island. At first, Philip was excited but throughout the first 5 chapters that definitely certainly changed.

Ships from their island started to get torpedoed and his Mum wanted to get away from the island. His Dad thought that it would be better for them since it wasn't too safe to go on a ship, but his mother insisted to go anyway. They hopped onto SS Hato and made their way to Miami but then got torpedoed.

Philip found himself on a raft with a man named Timothy and a grey cat.  Philip didn't like Timothy all that much mainly because Timothy was black. At first, Philip's head started hurting but eventually led him to be blind. So Timothy and himself have to work together to stay alive on a raft. So that is what I can remember from the first 5 chapters of the novel. This isn't all that happened since I can't remember all of it.

Do now: Cay

It would be difficult to live on a cay because there probably wouldn't be anyone else living there apart from yourself and a low chance of getting food from the small island unless you fish. It would also be even more difficult if you don't know how to fish and make a fishing pole. There isn't also fresh water to drink. If you were to stand on the cay you can hear the waves crashing on the shore and maybe hear some birds chirping. You might see other cays and even an actual island.

Volleyball Term 3

My skills before we started the unit wasn't so good, I was okay when serving but my aim wasn't the best.
I think my skills are definitely better now because I got to practice them. Now I can spike serve and when I serve my aim is better. I think the hardest thing about playing volleyball going to the ball in time before hitting the ground. What I like most about volleyball is how I can play with my friends and it's an easy sport to learn. If I were to do PE next year wi would like to be generally good a volleyball.

Calypso

This do now is about Calypso, which is a style of Afro-Carribean music. The song reminds me of the Little Mermaid song under the sea because of its upbeat sound and what seems like the xylophone playing in the background. I think that this would be played best at the beach because it sounds like under the sea and how it originated from the Caribbean. Here is the one we listened through.

Health discovery

In Health we were set a task that required us to research any topic relating to health. I chose to do an illness, that illness is Anxiety Disorder. We could work with a buddy or by ourselves, I chose to work by myself.

Firstly we had to come up with our 6 bog questions, once that was picked out we had to create something that shows what the 6 questions are and the answer to them. We also had to write strategies to help overcome whatever that may be. I made mine using Canva. Here it is Anxiety disorder. We also have to create something relating to our topic, I made a word find.

I didn't find anything that challenging when we had to do the research and when it came to making the final project. I wouldn't really change anything apart from making the slide show a bit brighter. I really like how the word find turned out.

Types of Energy

What we are learning

We are learning about the different types of energy and energy transformation.

8 types of energy:

- Heat energy- It gives energy to particles to move faster and create heat.

-Light energy- From x rays and visible light.

-Sound energy- Vibrating particles that create sounds.

-Kinetic energy- It allows anything to move.

-Electrical energy- Anything that uses electricity.

-Gravitational energy- Energy found in objects high off the ground.

-Chemical potential energy- Energy that is found in chemicals like food.

-Elastic energy- Found in stretched things.

Energy transformation

Energy does not get created or destroyed, it just moves from one type to another = transformation.

Marshmallow cannons

1. Cut the base off a cup.

2. Cut a balloon 1/2 way down the neck of it.

3.  Stretch the balloon.

4. Carefully put the balloon over the base of the cup.

This is a demonstration of how the different types of energy transfer.

Pontoon Bridge

For our do now we are learning about pontoon bridges. Pontoon bridges were made because it would take too long to create an actual bridge. They were used to board small boats and cross rivers. They are attached by Chesters and plank wood. You could easily remove them and from place to place.

The Trolley

This week we read a short story about a Mum who couldn't afford Christmas gifts for her kids. Instead, she made the gift herself and that was a trolley. Issues that popped up were poverty and being anxious about Christmas gifts.

Schooner

A schooner has two or three triangular sails, one or two square topsails and two or more masts that are in a light colour. The sails are attached to the bowsprit which are the two poles on the boat. The boat itself is a bit narrow and long. The colour of the boat differs, ranging from red to black. It has a long tip on the front to which one of the triangular sails are attached. If you were to stand on a schooner you can pretty much see anything because it depends on your location but you can see a lot of the ocean. Some schooners are about 135 meters long.

U-boats

  1. U-boat was used by the Germans in both WW1 and WWII.

  2. It could carry 35 men and 12 torpedoes.

  3. The U-boats can stay underwater for two hours.

Prediction about The Cay

From what I can see from the front of the book It looks like the older man is teaching the young boy how to put bait on a hook on the fishing rod. the young boy's shirt is ripped so he might have been in a shipwreck and it even says at the back that him and his mother's ship sunk. So I think it's gonna be about how he and the old man at stranded and help keep each other alive.

Convection & Conduction

 Hurumanu 3- Chemicals and Chaos

Convection and Conduction are both types of heat transfer, it is when energy is passed from cold to hot. It is about passing on heat.

When something heats up the particles move faster and faster so when they bump into each other they transfer heat because they are being in contact.

Conduction- it passes the heat energy through contact.  Good thermal conductor- can pass on heat. eg. stovetops and kettles

Thermal insulator- does not pass on heat. (bad conductor for when you want heat) eg. house insolation and thermals. Thermal insulator traps heat in because they don't conduct heat.

A good thermal conductor can be a good and bad thing as well as a bad conductor.

Convection- It is when heat energy is transferred without needing to be touched, it is usually in liquid. eg heaters and hot air balloons

The process continues eventually the whole liquid would get heated up. the process is called Convection Currents

- Hot stuff rises, cold stuff sinks

Teabag rocket

When we lit the teabag on fire the particles spread out and were less dense making the teabag go up because it is light. When the ashes reach the top it becomes cold and the particles become compacted, denser and heavy, making them come back down.

Week 9 do now

Being able to be confident when public speaking is an important life skill:

I agree with this because there will be many times when you have to publicly speak and if you're not confident in public speaking then that would be difficult. like for instance if you have a job meeting, that is still public speaking you have to be confident in doing that. so that is why I think being able to be confident when public speaking is an important life skill.

Week 9 do now

Matariki should be a public holiday:

I agree with this statement because we already celebrate it so much why not make a public holiday.  We celebrate the Chinese New Year why not Maori New Year. So that's why I think Matariki should be a public holiday

Turon

On Friday we made turon which is a Filipino snack. we made turon because for this lesson we got to choose what we wanted to make. My stakeholder was my friends, they didn't have any dietary needs and likes any Filipino food.

Instructions:

Prepare the wrappers by peeling them apart, then cover the peeled wrappers with a damp paper towel to keep them moist. Peel the bananas and cut each into halves lengthwise. Place the brown sugar into a flat dish and roll the slices of banana completely covering each slice with a generous amount of brown sugar. Place a banana slice along the end of the pastry closer to you. Fold both sides (left and right) of the wrapper inward towards the banana. Use water to moisten the wrappers so it is easier to fold. Now roll it towards the other end away from you. Use water again to seal the edge. Heat oil in a frying pan over low heat. Once the oil is hot, add some of the wrapped bananas and fry for 3-5 minutes on each side or until the wrapper turns golden brown. Drain them on a paper towel and serve while warm and the wrapper is crispy.

Instructions by Foxy folks

My friends really liked the Turon, they said they could really taste the banana but they wished the banana was sweeter. They said they smelt really good and they liked how crispy the outside was.

Next time I should add more brown sugar since they said they would like it to be sweeter but other than that I wouldn't change anything

Lhysette and I worked well because it was familiar to us. It was really easy for us to make because we already knew how to make it and because we both cook it with our mums. There weren't any difficulties when it came to making them.

Overall it was really fun and easy to make Turon and people seemed to like it when they tasted it.

Week 8 do now

English is the most important subject to learn in school:

I disagree, I personally think that English isn't the most important subject to learn in school. Though it is important I just don't think it's the most important. There are other important subjects to learn in school like maths. So that is why I disagree that English is the most important subject to learn in school.

Apple Turnovers

About two weeks ago we made apple turnovers, we usually have three people in our team but one person recently joined us so now the people in our team is me, Lhysette, Emma and Ebony.

Our team work really well and as usual, the lesson went pretty smoothly at least for our group.

The turnovers were easy to make and it didn't make a whole mess in the kitchen. I kina wish we left them in the oven for a bit longer so the outside would be more crispy and toasted but we didn't have enough time to.

They tasted and smelt really good, you can taste and smell the cinnamon. Overall a pretty easy thing to make, the preparation didn't take that long but baking then took a while.

Corn+ Bacon fritters

A few weeks ago we made corn and bacon fritters. I don't remember much of what happened since I was only there for the first half of the lesson.

From what I can remember we worked well and we knew who was doing what and we were pretty organised.

At the start of the lesson, to me, corn and bacon fritters didn't sound so good but from what they said afterwards it seems like they tasted really nice.

Distillation

Distillation: Separating a solution using evaportation+condensation.

Experiment/ aim: To show the processes of evaporation and condensation by separating coke and sugar-free coke to see how much sugar is present.

The 3 states of matter are solid, liquid and gas.

Heat up coke- until all the liquid is evaporated, trapping the gas in the tube.

- Use ice around the test tube to condense the gas.

Evaporating is when you make a liquid into gas and condensation is when you turn gas into a liquid.

I think what will happen is when we evaporate the coke we can see a lit of sugar, but for the sugar-free one then I don't think we'll see any of it. I also think that we will be able to see the liquid evaporating into gas, then be able to condense the gas into liquid.

Method:

1. Set up the equipment as shown in the diagram.

2. Add approximately 50 ml of coke into your conical flask.

3. Light your bunsen burner. Open the air hole and gently push the bunsen burner under the tripod.

4. Heat the solution until most of the solvent has been evaporated. Turn off your bunsen burner.

During the experiment, the coke was bubbling up because we were heating it up then it started evaporating, The steam went up the tube and into the test tube, as the coke kept bubbling and the steam travels up the other tube more water filled the test tube.

When it was evaporating water when to the test tube because we were condensing it at the same time. The test tube was in a beaker and it was also filled with ice and that was how we condensed the coke.
